Darren Keith Tamashiro, 60, of Seattle, died Oct. 28, 2022, at his residence in Washington. Born in Honoka’a, he was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, Northwest Airlines and Continental Airlines and a steward for Norwegian Cruise ships, an avid graphic artist and member of the Skeet Shoot Club in Seattle a founding member of the Manalele Gun Club. Visitation from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Dec. 3 at Honoka’a United Methodist Church. Service at 11:30. No flowers. He is survived by his wife, Akiko Nomura of Choshi Nagaski, Japan; son, Kekoa Tamashiro of Thailand; mother, Suzanne Tamashiro of Honoka’a; brother, Nolan (Sharlene) Tamashiro of Mililani, Oahu; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Ryan Okimoto
Ryan Hitoshi Okimoto, 69, of Papaikou, died Sept. 24, 2022 in Keaau. Born in Hilo on July 23, 1953, he was employed by the State of Hawaii as an animal farm manager at Kulani Prison. “Celebration of life” service will be held on Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. at the Hilo Meishoin Social Hall (97 Olona Street) in Hilo. Casual attire is requested. He is survived by daughter, Jaime Lono of Koloa, Kauai; son, Aaron (Trisha) Okimoto of Hilo; brothers, Lance (Ellen) Okimoto of Papaikou and Neal Okimoto of Keaau; sister, Dale (William) Higa of Pearl City; four grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. Dennis Masashi Motoyama, 68, of Kailua-Kona, died Nov. 8, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in North Kohala, on Jan. 3, 1954, he was a retired landscaper. Segundo Calicdan Jr.
Segundo Calicdan Jr., 83, of Hilo, died Oct. 8, 2022 in Keaau. Born Sept. 17, 1939, in Waimanalo, Oahu, he retired as a working foreman for the Hawaii Electric Light Co. and was a U.S. Navy veteran. May Shizue Ushijima, 87, of Hilo, died Nov. 5, 2022, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was retired from both the Hawaii County Data Processing Department and former C. Jacqueline “Snookie” F. Mello, 67, of Volcano, died Oct. 19, 2022. Born March 27, 1955, she was President of Aecos, Inc.; a paddler in the Kaneohe Canoe Club, and worked closely with KEY Project. A graveside burial service will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 9 at Hawaiian Memorial Park in Kaneohe, Oahu. A Celebration of Life will be held on Dec. 10 at Key Project on Waihe’e Rd. A second Celebration of life will occur in Volcano at a future date to be announced. Born in Honolulu on Dec. 17, 1941, he was a tree trimmer and treatment plant/pump station maintenance worker for the City and County of Honolulu, a ranch hand and truck driver for Parker Ranch, chef at the Royal Waikoloan and truck driver for numerous trucking companies on the Big Island and Kauai, president of the Kona Bowling Association and board member of the State of Hawaii Bowling Association, red and black belt Kajukenbo professor and a member of the Waimea Annunciation Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 17 at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea. Mass will begin at 9 a.m. followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.
